Behind the studio

Meana Kasi | Artist & Co-Founder

Hello! I'm Meana. I started Layli Atelier as a journey back to myself in my late 40s, but its origin story is much older.

Early Beginnings: Art as Sanctuary

My creative journey began in art therapy as a young child where I turned to creative practice to process deep family trauma, navigate hardship, and face the complex realities of identity, racism, and displacement as a refugee.

At the same time, I was devouring the vibrant pages of National Geographic as I tried to make sense of the world and my place in it.

These formative experiences helped me cultivate hope, gratitude, and wonder, teaching me to look deeper and seek beauty, peace, and sanctuary in the smallest details of the world around me.

The Corporate Chapter & A Return to Craft

Decades later, in a season of corporate burnout, health challenges, and deep personal loss, I found myself needing that sanctuary once again. I returned to art as a way to come back to myself.

I named our studio Layli Atelier — after a cherished name I had carried for decades, inspired by the ancient poetry of Layli and Majnun — in honor of that enduring promise that the dark seasons teach us to seek light, healing, and quiet wonder.

Today, my multidisciplinary practice is a journey of reawakening quiet wonder. Every photograph, painting, and print is created to pass along the sense of grounding peace, sanctuary, and delight.

Whitney Ellis | Co-Founder

This studio is a true labor of love and a small business run by me and my husband, Whitney. While I am the hands behind the camera, brush, and (sometimes) clay, Whitney is the steady force helping me build and run the physical world of our studio behind the scenes.

Whether it is a fine art print or an original painting, we are truly honored to share the quiet beauty of our world with you.

Cheers,

Meana & Whitney
